When guests are ready to depart, they often call the service desk to request that a Bellperson bring their luggage downstairs. Bellpersons may move up the career ladder by locating similar jobs in larger or more prestigious hotels, resulting in increased earnings and tips. If a position opens up, and individuals have experience, they may also be promoted to bell captain.
Usually casino hotels prefer applicants to hold a high school diploma or its equivalent.
Work experience may be accepted in lieu of education.
In most casino hotels this is an entry-level position. Any experience in the hospitality or service industries will be useful. Bellpersons must be able to carry heavy luggage. Individuals should be friendly, courteous, and personable.
