How to create a Magic iDVD using your MacBook

Create a Magic iDVD

A Magic iDVD helps you create a cohesive DVD of your video and/or photos, using Apple-provided themes for your menus. Launch iDVD and select Magic iDVD to get started. Name your DVD in the Title box and select a theme for your menus from the Theme chooser provided at the top of the screen. Don’t worry— you aren’t married to your choice. You can always go back and change it later.

Use the Media Browser on the right side of the iDVD window to select movies and photos for your DVD. You can drag single clips and photos or whole events over to where it says, “drop photos/movies here.” Arrange your clips or photos in the order that you want them to play in.

Use the Media Browser again to select music. Drag a song over to an Event or to individual movie clips to add background music. A speaker icon will appear in your selection to indicate that music has been added.

Once you’ve completed adding your content and enhancing your slideshow with music, you can click the Preview button to see exactly how your finished project will look. The main menu will list Movies and Photos. Click one of them to see the contents.

The titles of your media and Events will be listed. Play them if you wish. If something doesn’t look right, now is the time to correct it. This is your last chance to change your theme, too, because next you’re going to burn it to disc. Click Exit on the iDVD remote control icon to return back to your project screen.

When you are satisfied with how your project looks and sounds, click the Burn button. You will be prompted to place a blank, writable DVD disc into your optical drive. A dialog box will appear so that you can track the burn process. When you are all done, your new DVD will work in any DVD player or computer with a DVD drive.

Create a OneStep DVD

If you simply want to make a playable disc of some video, you can use the OneStep DVD feature. Connect your video camera or digital camera to your MacBook and turn it on. Open iDVD, click OneStep DVD, and insert a blank DVD into your optical drive. iDVD will do the rest! You can also use video clips already located on your drive.

Create a Custom Project

You put together a custom project very similarly to how you created the Magic iDVD, except that you have much more creative control over the details. To start a new custom project, click the Create a New Project button on the iDVD opening screen. You will still choose a theme for your project, but you can customize the buttons and add more features than with the Magic iDVD option.
