Netscape calls them "Bookmarks" and Microsoft Internet Explorer calls them "Favorites," but these tools are similar and very valuable for keeping track of sites you would like to visit again by maintaining a list of them right in your browser. Since Netscape was around first, everyone calls saving these sites "bookmarking."
To bookmark a website, go to your toolbar and click "Bookmark" or "Favorites," and then "Add." It is that simple. Once you have added a URL to your list, you can simply go back to "Bookmarks" or "Favorites," click on the link in your list, and you will go directly to that page, without having to remember and retype the address. Starting with versions 4.0 and up, both tools allow you to store these bookmarks/favorites in folders that you can organize and even write descriptions to tell you more of what they are. Note that some webmasters either give very long names or very generic names to their web pages, so for example, you may want to change a page that shows up as "index.html" to "cool pet site" in your bookmark list so you can easily remember what it is.
Beware of the temptation to put hundreds and thousands of sites into your bookmark list. Often when people do this, they cannot locate the one site they really need when they are looking for it. Instead you may want to pick the handful of sites you will regularly use and bookmark those.
You can create an even faster link to your favorite sites by simply dragging a URL from the location bar (look for the small icon to the left of the URL) to the space beneath it - this creates a custom button right there under your location bar - saving you a couple of clicks of the mouse. You can easily rename, delete, or change these buttons by editing your "Bookmarks" or "Favorites" list.
Just under the toolbar is a box called the "Location" bar, or "Go To" or "Address." This is where you enter an address, press "Return" and go to the web page you have entered. If you click on the small triangle or downward arrow to the right of the address or location box, you will get a drop-down list of the most recent websites you have visited. To revisit a site, but get the latest version, all you have to do is click on the address in the list.
Sometimes you may find that you have inadvertently hidden this bar from your view. To get it back, just go to the "View" menu and click "Toolbars," then "Address Bar" in IE, or "Show," then "Location Toolbar" in Navigator.
On the browser, the menu bar is located along the top of the browser window. The menu bar gives you a variety of options to do things like save files to your hard drive, change the size of the browser pages and even translate languages. All of the tools use drop-down menus.
