Latin pop star Ricky Martin tells the world he is gay. He stated this on his website. Not that Barbara Walters didn't stike the first blow back in 2000, when she interviewed him. However, Ricky Martin, the happy father of twins, never felt like sharing the fact that he's gay with the rest of the world. After his hit "Livin' la vida loca" people started questioning Ricky Martin's sexuality. As he puts it, he denied these gay rumors.
Years later when he wanted to come out and announce that he is gay, the people closest to him advised him not state publicly that he is a homosexual, thinking that his entire career would collapse.
Some time ago he decided to write down his memoirs as an action to free himself from secrets that darkened a part of his life. This is yet another confirmation that celebrity life isn't all about the glamour and the luxury the media usually points to. It actually kept Ricky Martin back from embracing himself as a gay man. For years in a row the stage was the only place where Ricky Martin felt free and could allow his emotions to unveil his soul. Admitting that he is gay gives him the same feeling he has on stage, as he says himself. Ricky states that he wants to share this and so he did. Today he feels relieved and freed from all the fear and insecurity that accompanied him for so many years. Coming out and saying that he is gay was one of the best things Ricky Martin ever did for himself.
As he says, he souldn't have been afraid of his homosexuality, with things going on around the world, that really inspire fear. Hopefully his decision to announce to the whole world that he's gay, will improve the overall acceptance of gay people, even more so of same sex marriages and families. Ricky Martin is gay and has two sons. His own children determined him to call out his truth. He trusts that being a father now, it wouldn't have been a good thing to continue hiding his homosexuality. Telling the truth about himself is just the thing Ricky Martin needed to do now that he's entering a new level in his life and artistic career.
As he puts it, this is something that had to happen now, this being the right time and not years ago. Ricky Martin states that acceptance had to come from within and it certainly is so. The overall impression he gives is that, by accepting himself as a gay man, Ricky Martin started to enjoy his immediate present and stopped projecting everything into the future.
