Leg adductors are also known as the inner thigh. They consist of several muscles that run along the inside of your hip to different points of the inner thigh. These muscles help you place one foot in front of the other. Strong inner thighs help you squeeze and stay on a horse or a motorcycle. Be careful of becoming obsessive and overworking your inner thighs, however, for they have a tendency to become inflamed.
Your legs bear a tremendous burden on a daily basis - you. It's time to trim, strengthen, and show them off.
Your "quads" are the four muscles at the front of each thigh. They are responsible for straightening your knees. Keep strong quads to prevent knee problems. These muscles are also used for climbing, running, walking, hopping, skating, skiing, and jumping. Quads are typically very strong and developed. They have to be, since they are responsible for carrying you around! Imagine carrying 130, 170, 200, and up pounds all day long! Now you know what your legs are feeling. Since they are used to trekking around with a lot of weight, it is going to take more than a little cardio and a few leg lifts to really make an impact on your legs. Your quadriceps - the upper, frontal half of your legs - are already a massive muscle, before you even begin to work out.
Your "hams" are the three muscles at the back of your thighs. They are responsible for bending the knee, as well as used in sitting and standing. Hamstring injuries are more common because they are usually much less developed than the stronger quads (their opposing force). Since your hams are so susceptible to pulls, make sure you warm them up properly before exercise or sporting activity. When bending over to touch your toes, if you feel tightness in the back of your thighs - those are your hamstrings.
Ladies, I know the painful price you sometimes pay in order to strut around in your skyscraper high heels all night long. And, believe me, men appreciate it very much. Manolo Blahniks and high-heeled stilettos are undeniably sexy. But they will look even better with lean, toned calves and ankles to go with them, not to mention adding a bit of support to your stability-lacking sling-backs.
Your gastrocnemius and soleus (also known as your calves) are the large diamond muscles that give the back of your lower legs their shape. The calves allow you to stand up on your toes and spring off the floor when you jump with elation! Strong calves are good for dancing, jumping, running, or hopping. They help with long romantic walks or waiting in those hour-long lines! When they are shapely and strong, they are very sexy!
