Using Safe Mode in Windows 7 to fix problems


All versions of Windows possess a special diagnostic mode you can launch. It is called Safe Mode. This can be a reduced functionality mode where just the basic hardware drivers are loaded and where all startup software is disabled.

Many viruses and malware packages that run automatically when Windows begins won't run in Safe Mode. You can, therefore, run your anti-virus scans in Safe Mode without fear of interference.

This is often especially useful if you wish to download an anti-virus or anti-malware software package but they are being blocked or redirected to fake websites instead.

One enters Safe Mode when you begin your computer by pressing F8 on your keyboard to create in the Advanced Boot Options screen.

If you begin to see the Starting Windows logo, you've gone too much and can need to restart.

The Advanced Boot Options menu presents a number of options. You need to usually choose Safe Mode, but if you need to get online to download anti-malware software in order to make use of an online virus scanner, you need to choose Safe Mode With Networking.

With Windows running in Safe Mode, you should be able to perform tasks for example updating your malware protection and running full scans of your PC with both anti-virus and anti-malware packages.

If your anti-malware package reports that it's found and removed the malware, you can reboot your machine normally. It is best to operate a second full scan using your anti-virus and anti-malware software after restarting, however, to be certain the malware is taken away.
