Ways to change your lifestyle and extend your life

You have most likely already experienced this: Resisting change is much harder than embracing it. If you've ever played with magnets, you can understand the power behind change. Whenever you hold two magnets near each other with the like poles pointed toward each other, they repel one an additional no matter how tough you try to make the two ends meet. However, once you flip their orientation so the opposite charges are facing each other, they effortlessly attract and stick together. Then, instead of requiring energy to hold them together, it takes huge energy to pull the magnets apart.

The magnet experiment is really a metaphor for how we experience change once we commit to it. I see this play out in my patients and customers who continue with poor habits that force them to expend excess energy just to keep their lives together - knowing that it could be much less effort if they just went ahead and chose a healthier path. I love watching the pieces of their lives fall effortlessly into location once they commit to change. It's a physical demonstration of change and how change is easy. It is the thinking about it that is tough.

What do you want to change? Do you need to be thinner, smarter, better paid, more loved, or healthier? What will you do to attract these things with ease? It is time to flip your mental magnet. Let your quest for high quality and not crisis motivate you if you are ready to upgrade to your ideal 100 Year-Lifestyle.

While you're in the procedure of thinking about what you need to change, your life might appear and really feel difficult. In reality, vacillating in between crisis and quality-of-life motivation mode can keep you on an emotional roller coaster - with respect to your well being, your marriage, your kids, and your finances. But, once you've produced the commitment to change - and I mean really produced it - then you'll find that many with the things you have been struggling with will fall easily into location. Actions and choices that are not in alignment with creating your greatest life will shed their appeal.

Like flipping the magnet, you will begin to attract the people and resources you need to reach your greatest dreams and goals once you shift your belief about what you think you can achieve. Regardless of whether it is well being for 100 years or undying passion for your family or a hobby, you get to decide what happens in the second half of your journey - one option at a time.

This resistance to change is something I observed time and again over the past 20 years, as I worked with thousands of patients to help them heal and maximize the quality of their lives. One of my patients was a successful stockbroker named Jim. About twice a year, Jim would come in for "crisis care" when he was experiencing severe episodes of back pain.

Each time, I would encourage him to change his life by correcting the underlying problem instead of slapping a "Band-Aid" on his symptoms. Jim would always respond by telling me that he knew I was right, but that he "just did not have the time to commit to it." When I asked Jim if he had time for his current crisis, he would laugh and say, "Of course not," but he wasn't interested in changing his routine.

More than the years, the episodes would get more painful, more expensive, and more inconvenient for Jim. Each time he came in, we would talk about how much better it could be if he allowed quality of life to motivate his well being choices instead of crisis. Finally, right after years of deteriorating health and one inconvenient crisis right after another, Jim committed to change. He made taking care of his back and spending more time with his family a priority.

Two years later, he was happier and healthier than I had ever seen him. "I really feel young and energetic again," he stated. His business was better than ever, his marriage was better than ever, and he was playing more golf than ever. He was really enjoying the best of his life.

Jim's high quality of life was lousy when he was just thinking about changing it, but once he finally committed to making the changes he knew he needed to make and made those changes his lifestyle, he started to magnetically attract fantastic things into his life naturally.
