Ways to find the power to change your life for the better

If you're ready to begin living a 100-Year Way of life but are not certain you've got the power for it, I've got some exciting news for you. It's not your age that's exhausting you. It's how you select to make use of your energy. Your focus either wears you out or wakes you up. Wherever you focus your energy, it goes.

If your life is anything like mine, you most likely operate at a fast pace. In reality, thinking about changing your schedule or commitments might appear even more exhausting than the clip you maintain to keep up. That's why a lot of of us unintentionally use crisis to create the extra power we need to justify changing our lives. We do not intend to stay in the status quo or rob ourselves of a 100-Year Lifestyle. But, somehow we end up on autopilot.

Why we do it's unique to each of us. Some of us lack drive. Some of us love the familiar. Perhaps we're comfy. The reasons really are not that important. The truth is that change is a high-energy investment that appreciates over time and the great news is that your power to change already exists. The question is, Where have you been spending it?

I was lately coaching a doctor who was unhappy with his practice. He wanted to make a change. Managed care had hurt his profitability. His practice felt more like a burden than a joy. Though he was an superb healer, he was losing the passion he once had for his work.

When I started suggesting what he could do to make his vocation fun and exciting again, I was shocked by his reaction. He began to argue with me, insisting that it wasn't possible. He focused on why he couldn't make the changes he knew he needed to make.

His face got red. His posture became defensive. There was an edge in his voice. The amount of power he expended to defend why he couldn't change was incredible. He ran down a list of a minimum of ten various reasons why things had to stay the same. Five minutes into the conversation, I felt more like I was in a courtroom having a defense attorney rather than a coaching session. He had built a tremendous situation against himself, defending why he couldn't change. I was listening to some of the negative chatter that played inside his head, day after day. The chatter was, in large part, unconscious.

A couple of days later, I was talking with a patient who was a really effective entrepreneur. Her all-work, no-play routine was taking a toll on her health and her family. She was exhausted. Her back hurt, and her level of stress was off the charts. When I suggested she take some time for herself, she began to argue with me, listing the factors why she couldn't. Her clients wouldn't like it, she told me.

Her cell phone, in fact, interrupted our conversation a couple of times and we had to constantly start over again. It was tiring just watching her. This lady is a superb salesperson and she could sell anything to anybody. Her challenge was that she had sold herself on the fact that she couldn't change. And she was wasting a lot of energy in the process.

No wonder she was stuck and exhausted. I asked these two people, who were having trouble finding the power to change, exactly the same question that I'm about to ask you: Whose side are you currently on, anyway?

They soon discovered, as you will too, that one of the locations where the energy to change springs from is the choice to quit defending why you can't change. What would happen if you started to develop a situation for why you can reside your ideal 100-Year Lifestyle, instead of investing your power in arguing why you can't?

After all, like it or not, you might have 30, 40, 50, or even 60 years before you reach 100. Your newfound energy would come from the same location it comes from now, only you'll use it differently. You'd use it to support, encourage, and take action to make the rest of your life the very best. Your energy level would skyrocket.
