What benefits breast augmentation brings

Is breast augmentation covered by insurance?

Breast augmentation is an aesthetic procedure. The only consideration for insurance coverage is to achieve symmetry in severely disproportionate breasts, or when the opposite breast has been reconstructed after surgery to remove all or a portion of the breast (mastectomy).

How can breast augmentation look or feel more natural?

Don’t expect breast implants of any kind to feel totally natural. What you need to determine is whether the slight difference in the feeling of your breasts is a fair tradeoff to achieving the size you want. You also need to decide if a few extra days of recovery are worth a much more natural result. The best means to achieve the most natural results is through careful evaluation of all the appropriate options defined by your cosmetic surgeon. In general this means:

Everyone is an individual, and all of your own physical characteristics and personal goals will help to determine the most natural outcomes for your breast augmentation. While most agree that silicone breast implants feel more like natural breast tissue, to some women, the choice of a somewhat firmer breast with saline breast implants can be equally satisfying. Don’t let anyone convince you that over- or underfilling saline breast implants can result in a more natural look. Breast implants are manufactured to defined specifications and approved by the U.S. FDA based on these specifications. Given all the options available, there is no need to deviate from appropriate practices.

Can breast augmentation improve sagging breasts, too?

Placement of breast implants alone may somewhat alter breast shape and improve firmness; however, low breast or nipple position can only be corrected through breast lift. This means that your breasts are more sloped than flat or they are slightly less perky than you would hope them to be. So, the answer to this question is a conditional "yes." It is conditional upon the degree of sagging, the cause of the sagging, and likely the progression over time as well as the degree of enhancement in breast size you desire. A naturally, slightly sloped breast can be enhanced in size, shape, and projection by the placement of breast implants. If your sagging is the result of skin that has stretched due to fluctuations in breast size over time, or that your breasts are flat and sagging with nipples pointed downward, your cosmetic surgeon will likely recommend a breast lift in addition to the placement of breast implants to reduce skin and re-shape the breast in a more natural position.

Part of your natural and successful outcomes in breast augmentation include placement of the implant in a pocket beneath the breast tissue or pectoral muscle. If the breast is sagging, an implant beneath the breast tissue will sag, too. An implant behind the pectoral muscle will look terribly unnatural; the implant would be positioned high on the chest wall, with sagging breast tissue and the nipple hanging below. Your best option is a thorough consultation and examination by a board-certified cosmetic surgeon who is experienced in both breast augmentation and breast lift.
