The next two panels of the Control Panel are WordPress Development Blog and Plugins. Both panels display RSS feeds: one for the Development blog, and the other for a list of the most popular, newest, and most recently updated plug-ins. You can subscribe in each panel to the RSS feed, and you can click See All in each panel to view the Web sites that the feeds come from. The Development Blog panel has an Edit hyperlink, which means you can customize it somewhat. When you click that hyperlink, you see an expanded panel with options slightly different from those in the expanded Incoming Links panel. In addition to RSS feed, number of items to display, and item date, you can set these options in the expanded panel:

Feed title: The default is WordPress Development Blog, but you can change the title to anything you want, and the panel's name then changes in the interface. You could use this setting in combination with the RSS feed setting to display a different WordPress Blog's content in this panel and have it labeled as such. Neato.
Display of item content: Because this panel is a mini-RSS reader, it only makes sense that you can display the content of entries. Only excerpts are shown in this panel's limited space; disable this option if you want to see just titles.
Display of item author: In keeping with the mini-RSS reader idea, you can also display the author of the entry if it is available in the feed.

The Development Blog panel is also known as the Primary Feed panel because you can display whatever RSS feed you want in it.

The Plugin panel, on the other hand, offers no customization options. You can subscribe to the Plugin RSS feed, however, so you can stay on top of things.

WordPress News

The final panel of the Control Panel, Other WordPress News, showcases blogs of that are either written by WordPress developers or devoted to WordPress. This panel is also known as the Secondary Feed panel. When you click the Edit link in this panel, you see yet another slightly different set of options in a Secondary Feed panel. You can set the feed URL, give the panel a title, and choose how many items to display. No matter what feed you choose, the panel displays news items in boxes.

Beyond the Control Panel/Dashboard

The top of every WordPress admin page features a few hyperlinks of interest. The first hyperlink, on the far-left side, is labeled Control Panel. This hyperlink takes you back to the Control Panel no matter where you find yourself in the WordPress interface. The right side of the page contains a mix of hyperlinks to internal and external resources:

User name. The first hyperlink is your user name, which takes you to your profile page.
Log Out. The Log Out hyperlink logs you out of the WordPress administrative interface.
Help. This hyperlink, like Forum, takes you to an external Web site that contains information about WordPress. Help points to the WordPress Codex, which contains more information about WordPress than you'll ever want to read.
Forum. The Forum hyperlink takes you to the WordPress Forums page, where you can post questions, read other people's experiences with WordPress, and find out some tips and tricks.
Turbo. The final hyperlink, Turbo, is the most interesting. Click it to launch a pop-up window that describes WordPress support for the Gears feature. Turbo makes your WordPress Control Panel faster by using Gears to store some of the Control Panel files locally, on your own computer. Your browser doesn't need to retrieve the files from the remote server, which saves some time.

Gears supports only certain browsers in certain operating systems, so be sure to check out Google for more information.
